Description: The start of a new set featuring green leaf textures. This addition features a close up photograph of a large leaf, quite a detailed shot lots of details. Will be adding more of these in the next few days.

If you duplicate the leaf texture layer in photoshop and in the layers setting change the top layer to ‘multiply’ you can get some great effects, its well worth having a mess about to see what different effects you can create.

Description: This grunge aged wood texture doesn’t look like much to start with but if you alter the layer settings in Photoshop to ‘multiply’ ‘overlay’ or ‘linear light’ it come in to its own, my favourite is the linear light, brings out the depth of the texture and is great for overlaying to add that grungy feel to an image.

This grungy wood texture was photographed from some old painted wood, some of the paint had worn off and cracks in the wood are showing through.

Description: This detailed rust texture is taken from a close up macro photograph from the side of an old galvanised water tank, rust has kicked in but due to the metal and treatment its quite subtle and has created a varied texture.

I think this one works well at 100% zoomed in photoshop as its grainy and the details are really sharp, but also works well zoomed out at different settings, love the gritty noise textures that appear at the top in contrast to the lower sections where the shapes are softer as the rain has washed over it.

Description: A rusty checkerplate metal texture taken from shots of another manhole cover again from work. This metal checkerplate texture is photographed from a distance and show a good selection of markings.

There is another grunge styled checkerplate texture also featured on my site, this one featuring a different style of aluminium checker plate texture.

Description: A very detailed manhole cover texture which I took a macro photo of at work. The metal is worn and dry with slight hints of rust, some great details on this new addition. I will be adding more of these with a variety of different metallic patterns.

Making a note of all the amazing textures I walk past everyday, starting to becoming a bit of an obsession, but to add its surprising how many amazing things we walk past every day without taking note of, looking forward to sharing more of my favourite textures soon.

Description: Grunge peeled paint texture taken from photos of a section of an RJS. This one features lots of cracked paint, some of this has traces of lichen growing on it. The outer white paint has cracked showing the primer paint below and in sections even that has decayed letting the rusty texture show through.

Description: This one has been sat on my desktop for over a week and not added to the site straight away, its a very detailed shot of a worn sandstone texture, quite a subtle texture, first thing I wanted to do when I saw it was ramp up the contrast, but it does have value as it is. Should be good for making 3D stone textures, as its big in size there are lots of possibilities.

Description: This detailed brown marble texture is taken from shots of a brown marble block which has subtle scratches on it. Got lots more shots of different types of marble, these will be featured soon on my site.

Description: This hi resolution dark brown leather texture was taken from a selection of photographs of an old leather covered chair. Another detailed texture with a grained brown leather, featuring scuff marks and a few scratches.

Might get all the chairs outside while we have good light and shoot a few more textures based on these. Hope you like this one? as always comments welcome.

Description: This is another start of a set featuring a fine sandpaper texture, again quite detailed and is good for overlaying gritty noise over images. I also tried out some other settings using the Photoshop layer drop down options. The first one I made was done by duplicating the sandpaper texture layer and applying ‘Color Burn’ the ‘Linear Burn’ also works really well for creating gritty grunge textures. If you are looking for a more detailed noise you can also try (again in layer options) the ‘Screen’ and ‘Vivid light’ settings. These lighten the image whilst still adding noise.

Description: This hand skin texture is the start of a new textures category for the site, got quite a few good skin textures from a variety of aged people, these will be featured soon. This addition is taken from a photograph of the palm of a hand and is very detailed.

As with most of the images I add to the site I have a mess and make sure they are detailed and I’m starting to add some short Photoshop texture tutorials that explain some ways of using them. For this one I have duplicated the background layer twice so we have three layers in photoshop all containing the hand skin texture. Turn the top layer visibility off so we can see the middle layer, now change the saturation to +40 and in the photoshop layer settings drop-down select ‘color Burn’. Turn back on the top layer again and desaturate that and again in the layers settings select ‘vivid light’. That should give you a blood stained effect as shown on the left.

There are load and loads of different techniques that can be created, messing about with the settings is a must and it gets you used to what works and what doesn’t.

Description: This aged chipboard texture was photographed from a boarded up window behind a shed, the sun has bleached the texture over the years and with it being slightly covered, a fine green moss has grown on to the bleached wood.

I’ve had a play with some settings in Photoshop to see what can be achieved using this chipboard image.
My favourite is to duplicate the texture layer, so we now have two layers containing the texture. Desaturate the top texture layer taking all the color out of it and in the layers setting change the top desaturate layer to color burn at 100 percent settings, a small version of this is featured on the left.

Other settings that I thought looked good were ‘linear light’ and ‘difference’ these two settings straight away give you great grunge textures, which can be used in loads of projects.

There are loads more wooden textures featured on the site and loads more will be added as the site develops. Hope you like this addition to the site, love to get comments on what you guys think of it and let me know if you find some other photoshop settings that make the texture better.

Description: Quite a subtle slate texture, this one is taken from some shots of old blue roofing slates.

I had a play in Photoshop with this one, if you ramp up the brightness and contrast you can make this one far more intense. Works well as an overlay, set the layer settings on multiply really brings the subtle cracks out. Will be adding more stone textures soon.

Description: Still quite surprised on how much detail my camera picks up… This worn denim texture looks pretty plain zoomed out but try it with a multiply setting on a photoshop layer on top of a coloured layer e.g. blue, then duplicate the multiply layer, its the start of an adventure.
There are more fabric textures also featured on my site and loads more to be added soon, these also include a larger selection of denim fabrics.

Really like the detail on this one, still messing in Photoshop while writing this. Debating on featuring the texture sheets I create when messing about, are they of value to you? or is it better giving you the textures and hints to using them. Comments welcome…

Description: Love this stormy cloud texture, I took this one up at the Farm. Loads of swirling clouds with the sun trying to break through.

This texture is also good to overlay over other images in Photoshop, some of the layer settings I recommend are multiply, overlay and exclusion. These will depend on what image you have underneath the cloud texture layer.

There are no set rules to the Photoshop layer settings, grab some images try them and find what works for your particular project, its great fun messing about with them.

Description: A light cloud texture featuring wisps of clouds in contrast to the blue sky. Quite a subtle cloud texture with hints of cloud. I was trying out a few different techniques with this one before adding it, the one I like best is to duplicate the cloud texture layer in Photoshop, desaturate the top layer image so its grey-scale, then invert it.

Next try setting the layer options to difference. If that’s a bit heavy try turning down the opacity of the original cloud layer 55% works well for me. I will be doing some tutorials soon in more detail. Hope you guys like the new texture?

Description: A large, detailed portrait bleached panel wood texture featuring ten wooden panels which have been bleached in the sun. There are some good wood grain, subtle cracks and lots of knots featured on these wooden panels.

Description: This brush metal texture is taken from photos of a stone cutting Stihl saw blade. quiet an interesting texture lots of movement, the 100% image is also very detailed with lots of coarse markings.

Description: I set myself a rule when I began the textures site that all the images featured on the site must be in focus, but this one bends that rule. This Ice bubble texture features hundreds of bubbles trapped in ice, the macros setting on the camera focused deep into the ice for the detailed focus. Still think this is an interesting shot, as always your comments are most welcome.
